Facelift Columbus, Ohio
Discretely Restore Your Confidence & Youthful Vibrance
A lifetime of living in the moment and smiling for pictures can result in a sense of “heaviness” in the lower half of the face. Facelift surgery directly addresses many of the concerns that relate to aging by removing excess skin from the face and neck, restoring skin elasticity, tightening facial tissue, and smoothing wrinkles and folds.
Natural-Looking Results & Hidden Incisions, Courtesy Of Expert Facelift Surgeon Dr. Sieffert
A youthful face has soft curves and more volume in the upper face than the lower face — a shape often referred to as the “Cone Of Youth.” In contrast, an aged face appears hollow and has more volume concentrated in the lower half than the upper causing what is called the “Inverted Triangle Of Age.”
As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Michelle Sieffert is trained in the latest facelift techniques to help you appear more naturally rested.
The Deep-Plane Facelift: Dr. Sieffert’s Advanced Surgical Technique
This unique approach is used to effectively rejuvenate the face and address signs of aging by targeting deeper layers of tissue. This procedure aims to lift and reposition not just the skin but also the underlying muscles and fat, offering a comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation. Dr. Sieffert has perfected the Deep-Plane Facelift and employs it to give patients more drastic results without ever sacrificing safety.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Facelift surgery may be right for you if you currently notice moderate to severe aging changes in the lower half of the face, with the formation of “jowls,” “marionette lines” and heaviness in the cheeks and along the jawline. You must be overall in good health, and not be taking any blood thinners or have uncontrolled high blood pressure.
A facelift does not treat lip lines, deep wrinkles, folds at the corners of the mouth, or folds at the corners of the nose. A facelift also does not rejuvenate the upper half of the face. The inclusion of a brow lift, eyelid surgery, Botox, and fillers can be added if this area is of concern.
-
A facelift is an outpatient operation that is usually performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Sieffert discreetly places her incisions so they are almost completely hidden from view. The tissue beneath the skin (the superficial musculoaponeurotic system or “SMAS,” where most of the facial aging takes place) is lifted into a more youthful position, then the facial skin is gently re-draped and excess is removed.
-
Dr. Sieffert treats delicate tissue responsibly during surgery, which results in a safer procedure, a faster recovery and a more comfortable overall experience.
Swelling, bruising and discomfort after a facelift are expected, with the most uncomfortable symptoms happening in the first 24 – 48 hours after surgery. You will be given medication to ease any discomfort you experience, along with a specialized compression garment to help minimize swelling. You will have a small drainage tube in place for 24 – 48 hours after surgery, which will then be removed in our office.
Getting Back To Daily Life
You can return to work approximately 1 week after your surgery if recovery is going as expected. Because swelling and bruising are conversationally noticeable for up to 2 weeks after surgery, a 2-week “social downtime” away from major social events is recommended. That said, most of our patients comment on how much easier their recovery was than expected!
It takes around 6 months for all swelling from surgery to subside, so if you have a major event planned (wedding, reunion, speaking engagement, etc.), Dr. Sieffert recommends planning your surgery at least 6 months ahead of the event.

While some Facelift patients have experienced some residual cosmetic improvements in the upper portion of the face, this procedure does not directly lift the eyebrows. The best solution to address this skin would be a brow lift.
-
A facelift does not directly address issues like lower eyelid bags or puffiness. These concerns are typically treated with lower blepharoplasty, which specifically targets the lower eyelids to remove excess fat and skin.
-
While a facelift may improve the appearance of the neck in people with very early mild aging, the surgery is not meant to address aging below the jawbone directly. If you notice significant aging changes in the neck such as extra skin, fullness beneath the jawline and banding of the muscles you may be a candidate for neck lift surgery.
Since the face and neck are very closely related aesthetically, rejuvenating one area without treating the other may create disharmonious results, neck lifts and facelifts are often combined in the same surgery. Dr. Sieffert will assess both the lower half of your face and your neck and make recommendations for the inclusion of a neck lift as needed.

A facelift does not treat lip lines, deep wrinkles, folds at the corners of the mouth, or folds at the corners of the nose. We offer a variety of nonsurgical treatments that can help with these concerns, including filler injections, Morpheus8 skin tightening and laser skin therapy.
-
While many surgeons make an obvious incision on the face in front of the ear, Dr. Sieffert discreetly places her incisions within the hair and inside the ear so they are almost completely hidden from view. The tissue beneath the skin is lifted into a more youthful position, then the facial skin is gently re-draped without wrinkles. Fat injections and surface treatments are performed last if necessary.
As with any surgical procedure, there is a potential for scarring. However, Dr. Sieffert’s technique is designed to minimize the appearance of scars. We also offer a number of nonsurgical, scar-reducing treatments, including Morpheus8 and laser skin resurfacing.

Facial rejuvenation often encompasses multiple modalities to address each area of concern. This often includes:
- Facelift surgery for jowls
- Eyelid surgery for droopy lids
- Fat grafting to volumize the cheeks
- Botox for forehead wrinkles
- Filler injections (such as Restylane or Juvéderm) for deep nasal creases
- Laser treatments to reduce fine lines
Dr. Sieffert will create a treatment plan that addresses all your concerns using the multiple treatment options available. From there, you are free to choose what treatments interest you most! Most of the time, facelift surgery is combined with other surgeries such as an eyelid lift, a neck lift, a brow lift, or fat grafting to achieve the best results.

Commonly Paired Surgical Options
Neck Lift
Whether performed to address sagging skin, eliminate excess fat deposits, or redefine the contours of the neck, a neck lift aims to achieve a more youthful appearance and address specific cosmetic issues of the neck region. A neck lift may involve the removal of excess skin, tightening of muscles, and contouring to diminish the appearance of wrinkles and sagging.

Brow Lifting
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, directly addresses the sagging or drooping of the eyebrows and forehead. It focuses on lifting and repositioning the brow and forehead tissues to achieve a more refreshed appearance. A surgical brow lift can also smooth out wrinkles, reduce the appearance of frown lines (or “glabellar lines”), correct brow asymmetry and make the eyes appear more youthful.

Blepharoplasty

This procedure uniquely addresses cosmetic concerns, including the reduction of puffiness and “bags,” removal of excess skin and tightening of the muscles, while potentially improving vision.
